Intro to Walking Meditation

The last time you walked— in the city, your neighborhood, the local park, or in a store — where was your mind? Did you make a phone call? Were you listening to music or a podcast? Maybe you were lost in thought, or in a hurry. When we’re walking, it’s almost second nature for our legs to be moving while our attention is somewhere else, but when we bring awareness to our walking, to the feeling of our feet on the ground, we become fully grounded in the moment and the waling becomes a practice of mindfulness, even as we are being active.

Mindful walking meditation is a perfect complement to our seated meditation practice – it’s “meditation in motion.” Walking meditation is designed to bring the body and mind in sync while we’re moving. And if you don’t like to sit and close the eyes to meditate, this is a great alternative that also trains the mind in awareness.

What You Will Experience

You will learn what walking meditation is, how to do it, variations of the technique, and why we might do this type of meditation. The workshop includes immersive guided activities as well as practical planning activities that will allow us plan times to incorporate walking meditation to our daily lives. It will also include discussion times for the group, as well as time for questions throughout.

You will walk away with an understanding of how and why you might choose walking meditation , when you might choose this form over other forms or meditation or when you might choose to incorporate it.
