Intro to Somatic Yoga

Friday, April 16th - 6:00-8:00PM

This 2-hour introduction to somatic movement led by teacher Sha Roehm, is designed to equip you with the meaning of Soma, educate you in the somatic perspective, offer breathing techniques and provide basic somatic movements.

Somatic Yoga, developed by Eleanor Criswell, is a unique approach to yoga that blends somatics (mind-body integration), Hatha yoga, and Raja yoga (Patanjali’s yoga).  It is based on the principles of somatics, yoga, neuroscience (especially the somatic nervous system), applied psychophysiology, and psychology.  You will learn how to listen to the signals your body sends, survey the internal self by re-educating the way your brain senses and moves the muscles. Somatic yoga is for anyone and everyone. No prior yoga experience is required.

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

One of the most important relationships is the one you have with yourself.  Many of us have learned to explore our connection to others without understanding how we operate internally.  This workshop will empower you to lean into the voluntary and non-voluntary aspects of your body.

Somatic yoga is a type of movement that assists in providing you the resources to step back from what your nervous system is telling you.  We will use slow conscious movements to inform how and what you want to do instead of automatically falling into long-standing patterns and behaviors.  These natural and intuitive movements will allow you to access more information about the ways you hold your experiences.

The human brain always retains the capacity to learn, change and grow.  Join me as we become inner astronauts.
